This is also stated in his <em>Life<\/em>. Earlier studies regarded their brotherhood as purely spiritual, but closer examination of the care Naum showed towards the younger and more gifted Clement strongly resembles the relationship between Methodius and his younger brother Constantine-Cyril <em>(Ivan Grudev, <strong>St Naum, the Distinguished Educator of Preslav and Ohrid<\/strong>)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naum also accompanied the <strong>Brothers of Thessaloniki<\/strong> on their missions together with Clement, \u201cgoing forward with them, even as far as Old Rome.\u201d When he arrived in <strong>Pliska<\/strong>, he took an active part in establishing Bulgarian literary and cultural life. While his brother educated the Bulgarians in the Ohrid region, Naum carried out the same work in Pliska and later in <strong>Preslav (886\u2013893)<\/strong>. The younger disciple of Methodius, <strong>Constantine of Preslav<\/strong>, acknowledged that it was Naum who inspired him to write his <em>Proglas to the Gospel<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Clement was ordained the first Bulgarian bishop in Ohrid and devoted himself to his ministry at the <strong>Monastery of St Panteleimon<\/strong>, Naum went to Devol to continue his educational work. For seven years (<strong>893\u2013900<\/strong>), he taught priests, ordinary people and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naum spent the final ten years of his life at the <strong>Monastery of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel<\/strong>, built \u201cwith the funds and by the command of the pious Bulgarian Tsar Michael-Boris and his son Tsar Simeon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naum departed this earthly life on <strong>23 December 910<\/strong> and was buried in a special chapel to the right of the altar of the monastery church by his \u201cbrother, companion and fellow sufferer\u201d, Bishop <strong>Clement of Ohrid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, this church forms part of the reconstructed monastery complex, where the images of <strong>St Boris-Michael and the Holy Seven Saints<\/strong> occupy a central place. Together with the tomb of <strong>St Naum<\/strong>, it remains one of the most radiant monuments of Bulgaria\u2019s <strong>Golden Age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special attention is also given to the other great educator of the Bulgarians \u2013 St Naum.
