Khan Kubrat

It all begins with the legacy of Khan Kubrat (605–665), the founder of Old Great Bulgaria.

The figure of the forefather is draped in a goatskin cloak, while in his hand he holds a bundle of arrows. On his deathbed, Kubrat used them to teach his sons that strength lies in unity.
“Never separate, so that you may successfully defend yourselves against other peoples,” Kubrat advised his five sons. Each arrow could easily be broken on its own, but no one could break the entire bundle.
This testament became a legend, and later Svatopluk, Prince of Moravia, is also said to have passed the same lesson on to his sons.
